The Sign of Ferlieview
Carved into the oldest trees along the tree line, pressed into the margins of the town’s records, and — impossibly — inked in the corner of a federal file that predates the Sage family’s arrival.
- The unclosed ring
- the town, drawn as a circle that never finishes — easy to enter, hard to leave.
- The stave
- the one road in.
- The branches
- the forest does not surround Ferlieview. It protects it.
- The leaning bar
- a bell demolished in 1974 that residents still hear.
- The two marks
- one for a name the town remembers — and one, in red, for a name it kept.
Residents will tell you it is only an old founders’ mark. They will also tell you not to trace it.
